About

Salut! Here’s where you learn a little bit more about me

My background / Ma origine

I was born and raised in Denver, Colorado, where I learned there’s nothing better than the relationship you form to your natural environment. I attended an imersion school where I learned French, which comes surprisingly in handy as a second language. My many sports, cooking experiments, and creative hobbies I have collected over the years have led me to consider myself somewhat of a jack of all trades, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

My studies / Mes études

I recieved my Bachelor’s in Aquatic Biology from the University of California, Santa Barbara. During my undergraduate studies, I was lucky enough to work as a research assistant at the Cheadle Center for Biodiversity & Ecological Restoration.

I participated in several projects that developed my interest in ecological research and data analysis. I got some early insight into machine learning leading a group of photoshop interns in creating training data to model bee hairiness as an indicator of thermal tolerance.

From here, I wanted some field experience, and was able to get up close and personal with female Carpenter bees (Xylocopa tabaniformis) to study their exocrine signaling and sociality.

With the support of my advisors, I completed two seasons of field collections for an independent research project investigating thermal tolerance across an array of Santa Barbara bee genera. I explored the preliminary outcomes of these data using a gamma generalized linear model and wrote a little blog post about it. My experience in the field and lab taught me that to be an ecologist, you must first be a data scientist! This led to to where I currently am, in my third quarter of UCSB’s Bren School Master of Environmental Data Science program.

My coursework from Fall is highlighted in my blog! Thus far, my favorite topic we have touched on is geospatial analysis. I am interested in visualizing large scale processes, particularly over time.

My work / Mon métier

My studies, research, and life experience have taught me thus far that everything goes a lot smoother when you have good information about your information. I started my dream internship with the National Center for Ecological Analysis and Synthesis in June, 2025. In my role as a data intern with the Arctic Data Center team, I help process incoming datasets from all areas of research pertaining to the Arctic to make metadata open, accessible, and reproducible. This is of great significance to me as someone who is interested in working on climate change as the Arctic is warming more rapidly than anywhere else on Earth. I have learned a lot in this role about all things data science, and am grateful for the continued opportunity to grow.

Outside / Pour s’amuser

Being a Masters student and intern keeps me quite busy, but I somehow find time to get outside and pursue my hobbies off the computer. Going to UCSB afforded me the greatest blessing of all time: living between the mountains and the ocean. I’ve gotten comfortable riding my 8’0 funboard, and go skiing at Mammoth Mountain or Tahoe whenever I get the chance. I have discovered that grad school is a wonderful time to get into knitting, and have started my first big project! Find me on Ravelry.
